Memorable Baby Naming Days
We all share a deep human need to celebrate the great events in every life with due solemnity. The naming of a new baby is one such important occasion. Traditionally this would have been a christening or other religious rite but in today’s more secular society there is a desire to invent new distinctive ceremonies that reflect the personal wishes and feelings of the families involved.
There is no end to the creativity such a ceremony can inspire: Music, art, drama, food, ritual, tree-planting, symbolic gifts, blessings, story telling. There can be ‘guardians’ or ‘mentors’ rather than godparents, the participation of siblings, the involvement of the wider community or something really small and intimate by candle light.
I would love to help you create the perfect ceremony for your baby.
We chose to ask everyone to write a wish on a luggage tag for Ellie and tie it to a branch of the cherry tree to blow in the breeze. This was for the spirit of air. We lit candles for the spirit of fire, we had a water slide in the garden for the children and planted sunflowers in the earth. Thank you Allegra for your gentle guidance. It was such a wonderful day. The grandparents were amazed and delighted.
We wanted a really simple thanksgiving ceremony for Martha. Nothing too fancy. Dear Allegra, you understood exactly. It was moving and beautiful. Thank you.

Thank you for conducting Dominic’s naming ceremony in such a fun, relaxed way – especially for finding a way to include our other children and making it memorable and meaningful for them too.

Just wanted to say a big thank you Allegra. We loved the idea of planting an olive tree for Callum. It was such an enjoyable day and the sun even shone! Can we book you up for the next baby?
